Indoor triathlons are many things to many people: a pleasant winter diversion, an unintimidating opportunity to try a first triathlon, the only chance to participate in triathlon because the summer is too busy with another sport... Well, that last one may only apply to me.
Indoor triathlons are held in workout facilities and consist of a pool swim, the use of an exercise bike, and a run on either a treadmill or indoor track. If you haven't tried one, you should consider it.

Tips for Finding Local Indoor Triathlons
First of all, if we missed one in Iowa, let us know in the comments.
Many of these races are put together by fitness clubs and local YMCAs who don't publicize their events in the typical "triathlon finding channels." It never hurts to ask at the front desk where you work out or to call around to other facilities. If they aren't planning one, maybe you'll end up giving them a good idea for next year!
Maybe you can be the one to plan an indoor triathlon. It might end up being a DIY Triathlon, or you could volunteer to work with the facility to help organize something they can use as a fundraiser or to promote their club.
