Kyle's Bikes 2019–20 Winter Bike Maintenance Specials

Kyle's Bikes Winter Bike Maintenance Specials will get you bike ready for springSummer has turned to fall. Fall will turn to winter. Now, it is time for the Kyle's Bikes winter bike maintenance specials. Imagine how great a clean, well-tuned bike will feel.

Winter is always a slow time for bike mechanics in Iowa. We want to keep our mechanics busy, so we are discounting two of our maintenance packages to entice you to bring your bike in. You will save money, and our mechanics will have something to do. It's a win-win!

Stop in to either our Ankeny or Waukee location any time Friday, October 25th through Monday, February 3rd to take advantage of these deals.

The first special is on our New Bike Feel Package. This is the package where we begin by completely disassembling your bike (after recording your fit measurements). As we build it back up, we clean, examine, lube, and tune every single part of it, including truing your wheels. All labor and the basic parts are included in the price. Your bike is returned to you feeling like new.

The second special is on our Annual Service and Cleaning Package. We recommend every cyclist have this package done yearly. The bike is given a complete lube (chain, cables, pivots, and pulleys), both the shifting and brakes are adjusted, and we true the wheels. The only disassembly is the drivetrain, so it can get a bath in our solvent tank. The price includes all the labor (excluding brake bleed), but all parts are an additional cost.

Why Would Parts Need to Be Replaced?

Some parts of you bike may last "forever," such as the frame. Some parts, like brake pads and tires, wear out in a season (or sooner if you're racking up the miles).

Here are the most common parts we end up recommending replacement of during winter maintenance:

Dirt and moisture wear down cables and housings. If they go too long without being replaced, it can be impossible to get shifting or braking performing smoothly. (New Bike Feel Package includes cables and housing.)

Replacing your brake pads every year is a good idea. They get worn down over time and are so critical for your safety. (New Bike Feel Package includes brake pads.)

Tires and tubes take a lot of wear and sometimes abuse from the road or trail. A fresh set for the new year is never a bad idea. (New Bike Feel Package includes tires and tubes.)

New bar tape or new grips don't just make your bike look better, they can make your hands and wrists feel better. Old, worn-down tape or grips aren't doing you any favors. (New Bike Feel Package includes bar tape or grips.)

The drivetrain is a common area where we find parts that need to be replaced. They don't necessarily need to be replaced every year, but they do need to be checked for wear. If your chain gets too worn, it can cause the gears to wear out faster. We will check your chain, chain rings, cassette, and jockey pulleys, and let you know how much life is left in them.

In addition, what parts have you been thinking about replacing? Do you want to upgrade to electronic shifting? Have a dropper post installed? Both these packages cover labor for these installations, so now is a good time to consider component upgrades.
