Local Indoor Triathlons 2015

Local Indoor Triathlons 2015It's not too early to try a triathlon. Although the lakes may be close to freezing, there are several local indoor triathlons to choose from. Indoor triathlons are held in workout facilities and consist of a pool swim, the use of an exercise bike, and a run on either a treadmill or indoor track.

If you are new to triathlon, they are a great way to practice what you've been training. If you have more experience, you can challenge some of your buddies and have fun with a bit of smacktalk while determining the "Ruler of January"

My Y Tri
Saturday, February 28, 2015 — Cancelled

Marshalltown YMCA-YWCA, Marshalltown, Iowa

On Thursday, February 12th, the Marshalltown Y made this announcement canceling the triathlon: "As many already know, the Des Moines Hy-Vee Triathlon has been cancelled. Due to this recent announcement, the local Hy-Vee My Y Tri committee had a tough decision to make. The local Hy-Vee My Y Tri is tied into the Des Moines Hy-Vee Triathlon directly, with the local race winners receiving entries to the Des Moines Hy-Vee Triathlon. This, and the fact that race entries for the My Y Tri were low for this year, the committee has decided to cancel the event that was scheduled for February 28, 2015. The goal now is to find an event to replace the My Y Tri that will bring new excitement to our Y in coming years, as the Y Tri did when it first began 12 years ago."

Proceeds were to benefit the Marshalltown YMCA-YWCA Annual Campaign.

Tips for Finding Local Indoor Triathlons

First of all, if we missed one in Iowa, let us know in the comments.

Many of these races are put together by fitness clubs and local YMCAs who don't publicize their events in the typical "triathlon finding channels." It never hurts to ask at the front desk where you work out or to call around to other facilities. If they aren't planning one, maybe you'll end up giving them a good idea for next year!

Maybe you can be the one to plan an indoor triathlon. It might end up more formal then a DIY Triathlon, but you could volunteer to work with the facility to help organize things.

Good luck! If you do an indoor triathlon this year, please let us know.

Awesome info. Thank you for posting all the information on those indoor triathlons in one place. I had no idea there were indoor triathlons. I wonder if they throw ice into the pool on the Ice Breaker Tri? ;-p

On a more serious note, I'm curious how exactly the swim works at these event...all those people in one place trying to swim in a pool sounds dangerous...
