  • Iowa Wind and Rock 2019: Heather Poskevich's Race Report

Heather Poskevich rode a lot of fresh gravel during Iowa Wind and RockIowa Wind and Rock

    #Grateful

You would think that 340 miles of gravel with 28,000 feet of climb over 31 hours and 16 minutes could not be summed up by one word, but for me it says everything. I’m not great at expressing thoughts on paper, but I’d best do it now because some of the memories I have are slipping away at an exponential rate!

Let’s talk about the first edition of Iowa Wind and Rock! This is the thoughtful creation of Sarah Cooper, Steve Fuller, and Dennis Grelk. A race created out of a sheer love of gravel for people that share the same love… an event that promised to be an absolutely epic show that would unravel as we pedaled along.

  • Kyle's Bikes Waukee Update

We've been super busy over at our new Waukee location since our November 2nd announcement. Our new store at 100 SE Laurel Street used to be a fitness center. It required a bit of work to make it ready as a retail space.

The first thing we knew had to go was the old check-in counter. The flooring, which was laid out for the old floor plan, also needed to be ripped up to make room for the new. The first few weeks of work focused on opening up the space.

Then we needed to make it ours. Continue reading

  • Employee Profile: Dave Hammer

Dave Hammer is Kyle's Bikes Waukee Store Team LeaderWith the Kyle's Bikes expansion into Waukee, it is time to introduce everyone to Dave Hammer.

Dave has been unofficially working at Kyle's Bikes since the Ankeny store opened ten years ago. Kyle asked him—along with his wife and tandem stoker, Cindy—to be the leader of the Kyle's Bikes Wednesday Night Ride. They said yes and have been leading the ride since then.

Officially, he has been an employee since the Monday after the 2018 Kyle's Bikes Parking Lot Sale. That's when he began working day-to-day in the store and preparing for the opening of the Waukee location where he will be Waukee Store Team Leader.

  • Employee Profile: Jim Riley

Jim Riley has been working part-time in our Ankeny Kyle's Bikes location, answering questions and selling bikes, for four years.

As we began planning the opening of our second store in Waukee, Kyle needed an Assistant Team Leader. Because Kyle worked for Jim when they were both at UPS, he knew Jim's character and work ethic. And in the last few years he's seen that Jim likes to help riders both experienced and beginner alike.

We want you to get to know Jim a little better. You can visit him on the weekends now in Ankeny, but when Waukee opens, you can see him nearly any day.

  • Kyle's Bikes Gift Guide 2018

At Kyle's Bikes, our primary mission is to make cycling and running fun for everyone. Now we want to make gift giving fun! If you have any cyclists or runners on your gift list, you will find some help in the Kyle's Bikes Gift Guide 2018.

We asked our staff for recommendations for the best gifts to give for the holidays this year. Some of these recommendations just came out this year, like the Tifosi sunglasses and the redesigned Specialized Hotwalk. Some of the items on this list have appeared in our gift guides before because they consistently make good gifts. That includes the Burley Encore bike trailer/jogging stroller and Kyle's Bikes branded water bottles.
